History Lesson For Girls

I’m a sucker for coming of age stories. Some of my most beloved books fall into this category. Catcher in the Rye, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, To Kill a Mockingbird; all these novels hold a special place in my heart.

I’ve just read a book called History Lesson for Girls by Aurelie Sheehan. The story begins with an unpopular 13-year-old girl named Alison. Being a teenager is hard enough but Alison is the new kid in town, the daughter of hippy parents, and has to wear a cumbersome back brace for her scoliosis.

To Alison’s surprise, a popular girl named Kate befriends her. The story follows their fragile friendship in a deeply honest voice which will be sure to bring back memories of your own teenage struggles.
